Traffic Pattern and Safety Notes
Rowing is a very safe sport but it takes a safety minded club to keep it that way. The club will be revisiting several safety practices for the safety of the members and other users of the boathouse and White Rock Lake.
Please refer to USRowing’s Safety Page for many helpful links and good information.
Rowers obviously are sitting facing backwards and move at a gererally faster pace than kayakers and canoists. 8’s move faster than 1x’s and racers move faster than recreational rowers, so there is always the need to move in a safe and defensive manner while on the lake.
The Cove: The cove between the Big Boathouse and the Boomerang should always be thought of as a NO SPEED Zone. Be extra careful as you enter and exit the docking area, Be also mindful of non rowers in this area.
Along the Dam: This area is one of congestion so please be mindful of the “right hand rule” at all times. Your craft should always be thought of as a vehicle, passing boats should ALWAYS be passing Port to Port or stay to the right just as you would in your car.
In general, row the lake in a counter-clockwise direction.
Let’s keep the lake safe and fun for all!
