Rowing With Heart...

Our focus on promoting rowing for all includes outreach that puts oars and opportunity in the hands of people who otherwise would not experience the sport we’re so passionate about.

White Rock Rowing is part of White Rock Boathouse, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization comprised of one of the country’s largest boathouses, a historic 1930s-era boat slip and The Filter Building, a popular event venue. Together, the facilities comprise an active rowing hub on White Rock Lake, where doors are open to everyone, from first-timers to seasoned masters.

Advanced/Racing:  Open to those ready to commit to training in order to race the three local races in the Spring (HoT, BLAST, and TX Rowing Championships). Sweep or scull.  Fee does NOT include your racing fees.  Please speak with Coach Binkowski before enrolling.   I am open to you forming your own boats, but I can certainly help in your decision making process.  There’s no reason you have to just scull or just sweep row, as it’s easy enough to form big boats on rough and windy mornings and scull in singles and doubles on calm days.  Keep in mind basic things like it’s hard to form a Men’s 8+ if only three Men sign up, the Club only has one mid-weight “racing” single, etc. etc.  If a large enough group signs up then I will grab one of the other Club Coaches to assist.  You need to be a member of the Club to enroll in this class.

Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 6:00am-7:30am  Coach: Alex Binkowski

Starts Feb. 19 – Ends April 28  Cost is $150  Sign Up

Sweep Rowing:  Come down and let’s go out in an eight, a four with, or a pair.  Open to any member that knows how to scull or sweep.  We can teach you how to row sweep if you already know how to scull and we can get you back in shape for that alumni eight at the Head of the Charles.  All boats will be a mish mash of genders and abilities and all will need to take turns being the coxswain.  Please keep in mind that based on enrollment and attendance at times some people may have to take turns or take out other small boats.

Thursday and Saturday  6:00am-7:30am  Open Enrollment  Coach: Katie Egan Sign Up

Starts May 25 – Ends June 29  Cost is $75Intermediate/Advanced: Open to rowers and scullers that are already comfortable rowing in big and small boats, including a single but want regular coaching.  If you have never raced before but are thinking about giving it a go later this summer then this is the place for you.  We will attend the race in OKC the end of June.  But you do not have to want to race to join the course as we don’t all have to want to race to enjoy the Sport.  If you are having doubts because you are not comfortable sculling in a single, please speak with me and we can discuss it.  My main intention is that you be proficient enough to keep up with the rest of the group and I didn’t want someone who just completed the Beginner course enrolling…so if for instance you know you want to go out in a double with your partner or a quad with a group of people then it is not an issue.  We will certainly form boats based on who enrolls and daily weather conditions too.  You need to be a member of the Club to enroll in this class.

Private Lessons:

For those unable to take a scheduled class, private, one-on-one lessons may be scheduled with one of our expert rowing instructors. One does not need to be a White Rock Boathouse member and this is a great way to give sculling a try.

Lessons are $60 a session and may be registered for and purchased at regattacentral.com. Go to “Clubs” scroll down to White Rock Boathouse.

Please email Coach Binkowski at alex.binkowski@whiterockboathouse.com and give him a few dates and times that you will be available for a lesson. He will assign an instructor who will contact you to confirm.
